Design engineers of «Kompenz-Elastic» breathed new life into the customer’s gas turbine engine

This case comes into the achievements bank of the design engineers of «Kompenz-Elastic». Our specialists successfully completed the assigned task of the customer and ensured trouble-free operation of the gas turbine unit.

—“It is always a pleasure to relate the successes in the production of quick-detachable heat insulation”, said the project management engineer Alexander Vasilyev. - The customer assigned the specialists of “Kompenz-Elastic” a complicated task: Avoid the destructive impact of the exhaust manifold surface heat to the components of the gas turbine engine which are located in close proximity.

— Historically, standard heat insulation supplied with the exhaust system has not provided 100% coverage of the surface which has temperatures reaching 450 degrees.  Consequently, the walls of the modular type engine enclosure and cable ducts placed on the walls could be heated to nearly 110 degrees. As a result, the instrumentation cables were heat damaged.

Design engineers of “Kompenz-Elastic" used their knowledge and extensive experience in the production of thermal insulation covers that solve this problem.

They developed a special design of the insulation covers incorporating a large number of various insulation products. This design provided the maximum coverage of all elements of the exhaust system, including the entire exhaust manifold.

In April 2013, the delivery and installation of heat insulation covers BSI for the exhaust system of 5 gas turbine units were completed.

After the installation of the new thermal insulation covers BSI, the specialists of "Kompenz-Elastic" inspected the engine. It showed that the temperature on the surface of the thermal insulation covers as well as on the cable ducts did not exceed 40 degrees. This means that the task was successfully completed by our design engineers.

— “Installation of the heat insulation covers "Kompenz-Elastic" of the special design provided not only the long-term trouble-free operation of the gas turbine engine, but also compliance with the requirements of the safety procedures performed by the maintenance personnel.” – said Alexander Vasilyev.
